Having to Say Goodbye

During a cancer scare, I felt it was important to write letters to my children in case I didn’t survive. I couldn’t accomplish the letters at the time. At the time, saying goodbye felt like giving in to cancer and giving up hope. Later, I became a life coach with a specialty of end-of-life coaching. After working with clients to write love letters to their families, I learned that they had the same paralysis of words that I did.

Love Letters to the Family

With some deep reflection, I called upon my love for writing and design. After hours of emotional writing, I finally wrote my letters to my friends and family. Many of the letters are now Smiling Wisdom greeting cards. Writing prompted an epiphany–We should share how we feel about others now, while we are alive–not just as words to leave behind. So I created a line of greeting card gift sets to share with others now, and after we are gone.

My Inspiration

My inspiration comes from others who have positively impacted my life in both small and big ways. I write in honor of friends and family that have passed. I write from love, pain, sorrow, misunderstandings, appreciation, and hope. I use a very wide pallet of colors, textures, my favorite animals, and words that make me happy.

Charm Care

Use a soft cloth to clean the charm. Keep the jewelry dry and away from water, chlorine, chemicals or sweat. Place in a sealed bag or container when not wearing the jewelry.

Packaging

Full-sized greeting cards come in a thick semi-transparent PP button envelope to protect the card and paper envelope. Flat jewelry is packaged in a velveteen bag lined with satin. Jewelry is packed in a plastic bag to avoid oxidation with will tarnish some metals like silver. Rigid items are placed in a separate button bag with the envelope inside, generally, within a box or larger velvet bag. Wallet-sized cards are generally in a window box with the jewelry.

THE STARFISH STORY – You make a profound difference. Once upon a time, there was a wise man walking on the beach. He looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. As he got closer, he noticed it was a young man, reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean. He came closer still and called out “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?” The young man paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean.”
“Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?” asked the somewhat startled wise man. To this, the young man replied, “The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them in, they’ll die.” Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, “But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can’t possibly make a difference!” At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean.
